Minimum order size and price limits in spot trading

Last updated:

Each spot pair has a minimum and maximum order amount and a price band: a limit price can only be a set percentage above or below the market price. These rules are set per pair by Xoibit and protect you from mistakes.

Minimum and maximum order amount

The amount is measured in the coin you buy or sell (for BTC/USDT, in BTC). If your order is too small you see "Minimum order amount is ...", and if it is too large, "Maximum order amount is ..." with the limit for that pair.

For a market order by total, the amount is worked out from the total and the market price, and the same limits apply.

Price limits for limit orders

A limit price far away from the market is usually a typing mistake, so it is rejected:

  • "Your price is too low from market price. Increase your price."
  • "Your price is too high from market price. Decrease your price."

Move your price closer to the current market price and try again.

Price limits for stop-limit orders

For a stop-limit order, the limit price is checked against your stop price instead of the market price, using the pair's band. The stop price also cannot be equal to the current market price.

Market orders and slippage

A market order can only fill within the pair's slippage allowance from the market price. Anything that cannot fill in that range is returned to your balance.

Other reasons an order is rejected

  • "Insufficient wallet balance": you do not have enough available balance in your Spot wallet. Funds held in other open orders are not available.
  • The pair is not active for trading.
  • Buying or selling has been restricted on your account. Contact support.

The exact limits differ by pair. Check the order form on the trading page for the pair you are trading.

SSS

Why is my balance not enough when my wallet shows funds?

Part of your balance may be held in open orders. Cancel orders you no longer need to free it, or transfer funds into your Spot wallet.

Do the limits ever change?

Yes, Xoibit can change them per pair. The trading page always uses the current values.
