How to place a limit order on Xoibit

Last updated:

A limit order buys or sells at the price you choose or better. Open the pair on the trading page, select Limit, enter your price and amount, and place the order. It waits in the order book until it fills or you cancel it.

Step by step

  1. Open Markets and choose the pair, for example BTC/USDT.
  2. In the order form choose Buy or Sell, then the Limit tab.
  3. Enter your price. For a buy it is the most you will pay; for a sell, the least you will accept.
  4. Enter the amount. The form shows the total.
  5. Place the order and check it under open orders.

What happens after I place it?

If there is already a matching order at your price or better, your order fills (fully or partly) at once. Any part that does not fill stays in the order book as an open order. While it is open, the funds for it are held as in order and cannot be used for other orders.

You can follow it in Open orders and cancel it at any time before it fills. See how to cancel an order.

Why was my limit price not accepted?

To protect you from typing mistakes, each pair only accepts limit prices within a set percentage above or below the market price. If you see "Your price is too low" or "too high from market price", move your price closer to the market. Each pair also has a minimum and maximum order amount.

See minimum order size and price limits.

Limit or market?

A limit order gives you control over the price but may not fill. A market order fills straight away at the best available prices. A limit order that waits in the book usually pays the maker fee; see maker vs taker.

There is no time limit option on spot limit orders: an open order stays until it fills or you cancel it.

SSS

Can a limit order fill at a better price?

Yes. If there are orders at a better price than yours when you place it, it fills at those prices.

Can a limit order fill only partly?

Yes. The filled part is traded and the rest stays open until it fills or you cancel it.

How long does a limit order stay open?

Until it is fully filled or you cancel it.
