What is device verification?

Last updated:

Device verification is a login check: when you log in from a device that is not recognised, you are asked for a verification code before you get in. Someone who steals your password still cannot log in from their own device.

How does it work?

  1. You enter your email or phone and password as usual.
  2. If the device is new to your account, you are asked for a verification code.
  3. After the code is accepted, you are logged in and the device appears in Device management.

How do I turn it on or off?

Open Security and find Device Verification under Advanced Security. Press Enable or Disable and confirm with a verification code.

Device verification vs login 2FA

  • Device verification asks for a code when you log in from a new device.
  • Login 2FA asks for a two-factor code when you log in. You turn it on separately in Advanced Security.

You can use both. Then a login from a new device may ask for both codes.

I keep being asked to verify my device

  • Private or incognito windows, or clearing cookies, can make your browser look like a new device.
  • If you removed the device in Device management, it is treated as new the next time.
  • A different browser or app on the same computer counts as a separate device.

I got a device verification code but did not try to log in

Someone may know your password. Do not share the code. Change your password in Security, check Account activity and log out other devices.

Keep device verification on. It is one of the simplest ways to stop a stolen password from being used.

常问问题

Where do I see my verified devices?

In Device management under Security. You can log out or remove a device there.

Do I need a code each time I log in on my phone?

Not for device verification once the device is recognised. If login 2FA is on, you still enter a 2FA code.
