How to set take profit and stop loss on Xoibit futures
Last updated:
You can set a take profit (TP) and stop loss (SL) when you place a futures order, or later on an open position with TP/SL for position. When the mark price reaches your trigger price, a market order closes the position.
Set TP/SL with a new order
- On the futures page, fill in your order as usual.
- Tick TP/SL and enter a take profit price, a stop loss price, or both.
- Place the order. The TP/SL become active for the position once the order fills.
For a long, the take profit must be above the order price and the stop loss below it. For a short, the take profit must be below and the stop loss above.
Set TP/SL on an open position
- Find the position in the Positions tab or in Positions.
- Press the edit icon in the TP/SL for position column.
- Enter the trigger price for take profit and/or stop loss. The form shows the current mark price.
- Confirm.
On an open long, the take profit must be above the current mark price and the stop loss below it, and the other way round for a short. You can cancel the take profit or the stop loss separately at any time.
How does the trigger work?
- The trigger watches the mark price, not the last price. See mark price and index price.
- When the trigger is reached, a market order closes the position, so the fill price can be a little different from your trigger.
- Position TP/SL apply to the entire position and are cancelled automatically when the position is closed.
Place your stop loss before your liquidation price (above it for a long, below it for a short). A stop loss beyond the liquidation price will not protect you, because liquidation comes first.
Why was my TP/SL rejected?
- "Take profit price must be greater than order price" or similar: the price is on the wrong side for a long or short.
- "Trigger price should be more/less than Mark Price": on an open position, the trigger is on the wrong side of the current mark price.
常问问题
Can I change my TP/SL later?
Yes. Edit them from the TP/SL for position column, or cancel the take profit or stop loss separately.
Why did my stop loss fill at a worse price?
When it triggers, it closes the position with a market order, which fills at the best prices available at that moment.
Does TP/SL cost a fee?
Setting them is free. When they trigger, the closing trade pays the normal trading fee.
