How to close a futures position on Xoibit
Last updated:
To close a futures position, go to the Positions tab and use Close at market price or Close at limit price. Leave the quantity empty to close the whole position, or enter a smaller quantity to close only part of it.
Step by step
- Open Futures or Positions and find the position.
- In the Close Positions column, enter a quantity, or leave it empty to close the full amount.
- For a limit close, enter the price you want.
- Choose Market to close now at the best available price, or Limit to place a closing order at your price.
- Confirm. Your realized PnL and fees are recorded in Transactions.
Other ways to close
- An opposite order. Positions are one-way, so a sell order on a long position (or a buy on a short) reduces it, closes it, or flips it if the order is bigger than the position.
- Reduce-only orders. Tick Reduce Only so the order can only make your position smaller and never opens a new one. See what reduce-only means.
- Take profit and stop loss. They close the position automatically when the mark price reaches your trigger. See how to set TP/SL.
Why can't I close my position?
- Minimum holding time. Some pairs require a position to stay open for a minimum number of minutes before it can be closed or reduced. The message tells you how long.
- No matching orders. A market close needs orders on the other side of the order book. If there are not enough at a suitable price, the close is refused; try again, close a smaller amount or use a limit close.
- Price outside the allowed range. A limit close must respect the pair's price limits, shown on Trading rules.
- A reduce-only order already exists on that side. Cancel it in Open orders first.
A limit close only closes the position when it fills. Until then the position stays open and can still be liquidated if the market moves against you.
What happens to my TP/SL and orders?
Take profit and stop loss set for the position are cancelled automatically when the position is closed. Other open orders on the pair stay open, so check Open orders after closing.
SSS
Can I close only half of my position?
Yes. Enter the quantity you want to close. The rest of the position stays open.
Is there a fee to close a position?
Yes. Closing is a trade, so the maker or taker fee of the pair applies.
Where can I see closed positions?
In the Position History tab on the futures page, and the realized PnL in Transactions.
