If you lost Google Authenticator, first try restoring it with your backup key. If you do not have the key, start a security reset: choose what to reset, verify with a method you still have, set the new value and answer your security questions. The request is then reviewed by the exchange.

Try your backup key first

When you enabled Google Authenticator you were shown a backup key. Add it to the app on your new phone and your codes will work again, with no reset needed.

• Your phone number.

How does a security reset work?

1. Open Security reset. You can also start it from the login screen when a code is asked for and you cannot get it.
2. Choose what you want to reset.
3. Verify with a security method you still have, for example your email or phone.
4. Set and verify the new value: a new authenticator, email or phone.
5. Answer your security questions if you set them.
6. Submit. The exchange reviews the request before it is approved.

Finish the reset in one go. An unfinished request expires after 15 minutes and you need to start again. The number of attempts is limited.

How can I avoid this next time?

• Save the backup key offline when you enable Google Authenticator.
• Set up security questions. They help prove the account is yours.
• Keep more than one method active, for example email and Google Authenticator.

Why is a reset reviewed?

Attackers often try to take over accounts by claiming to have lost a phone. The review protects your funds by making sure the request really comes from you.
