How to read the order book
Last updated:
The order book is the live list of open buy and sell orders for a pair. Sell orders (asks) are above the price line, buy orders (bids) below it. The closer an order is to the middle, the closer it is to the current price.
What do the columns mean?
- Price: the price of the orders on that row, in the quote coin (for example USDT).
- Amount: how much of the coin is offered at that price.
- Total: price times amount, or the running sum, depending on your display setting.
Bids, asks and the spread
- Asks (sell orders) are usually shown in red. The lowest ask is the cheapest price you can buy at right now.
- Bids (buy orders) are usually shown in green. The highest bid is the best price you can sell at right now.
- The spread is the gap between the lowest ask and the highest bid. A small spread usually means an active market.
How can I change the view?
- Show buy orders only, sell orders only, or both.
- Group prices by a number of decimals, so nearby orders are added together on one row.
- Turn on average and sum to see the average price and running total down to a row.
What are market trades?
Next to the order book, Market trades lists the latest trades on the pair with price, amount and time. My trades shows only yours.
How do I use it when trading?
- Click a price in the book to use it in the order form.
- For a buy limit order that fills at once, set a price at or above the lowest ask. To wait, set it below.
- Check how much is available near the price before a large market order, so you know how far the price may move.
The order book shows orders waiting on Xoibit only. Stop-limit orders do not appear until they trigger.
