How to add or remove margin on an isolated position
Last updated:
You can add or remove margin only on a position in Isolated mode. Press Adjust Margin on the position, choose to add or remove, enter the amount and confirm. Adding margin moves your liquidation price further away; removing it moves the liquidation price closer.
Step by step
- Open Positions or the Positions tab on the futures page.
- On an isolated position, press the edit icon next to the margin to open Adjust Margin.
- Choose Add or Remove.
- Enter the amount in USDT. The window shows the currently assigned margin, the amount you can add or remove, and the estimated liquidation price after the change.
- Press Confirm.
How much can I add?
Up to the available balance of your Futures wallet. If you ask for more, you see "Insufficient available balance to add". Transfer more USDT to your Futures wallet first if you need to.
How much can I remove?
You can remove only the margin above the position's initial margin (position value at entry price / leverage). If you ask for more, you see "Insufficient balance to remove". Removed margin goes back to your available balance.
Removing margin brings the liquidation price closer to the current price. Check the estimated liquidation price in the window before you confirm.
Why can't I adjust margin on my position?
Positions in Cross mode do not have their own margin: they share the Futures wallet balance, so there is nothing to add or remove. To give a cross position more room, transfer more USDT to your Futures wallet. See cross vs isolated margin.
Does adding margin change my PnL?
No. Your PnL in USDT depends on size and price. Adding margin only changes how far the price can move before liquidation, and so your ROI percentage.
Preguntas frecuentes
Will adding margin stop liquidation?
It moves the liquidation price further away, which gives the position more room. If the price keeps moving against you, it can still be liquidated.
Where does added margin come from?
From the available USDT balance of your Futures wallet.
