Why Restaking Protocols Are Becoming a New Security Layer for Web3

Blockchain security has traditionally relied on individual networks protecting themselves in isolation. A new innovation called restaking is changing that by allowing security to be shared across multiple protocols using the same underlying capital.

Restaking enables users who already stake assets on a base blockchain to extend that security to additional networks or applications. Instead of locking up new capital, staked assets are reused to secure multiple systems simultaneously. This creates stronger security guarantees while improving capital efficiency.

For new protocols, restaking is transformative. Rather than bootstrapping security from scratch, they can inherit trust from an established network. This lowers entry barriers and accelerates innovation, especially for infrastructure projects, oracles, data layers, and middleware services.

For users, restaking introduces new earning opportunities. Stakers receive additional rewards for providing security to multiple systems, but with this comes higher responsibility. If a participant acts maliciously or fails to follow protocol rules, penalties may apply across multiple layers.

As Web3 becomes more interconnected, shared security models like restaking will play a critical role. They align incentives, strengthen network resilience, and make decentralized systems more scalable and sustainable.
